Veolia wins a €240 million contract to build and operate a waste-to-energy plant for the SDEDA

Veolia has secured a contract from Syndicat Départemental d’Elimination Des Déchets De L’Aube (SDEDA) for the construction and operation of waste-to-energy plant Valaubia project in France.

The plant will have the capacity to treat 60,000t of waste, converting it into energy to be used by the region.

Veolia’s France waste solutions CEO Bernard Harambillet said: “The construction and the operation of this high-performance waste-to-energy plant meets SDEDA’s commitment to finding the best possible local energy solutions.

“This type of contract reflects our growth and our aims in terms of the circular economy.”

The project is expected to be completed in 43 months and will be in operation for 25 years. The contract will represent cumulated revenue of €240m.

Veolia stated it will adhere to environmental and technical standards during the construction of the project. It anticipates that the plant will be able to generate nearly 41GWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to consumption of almost 50,000 households. An estimated amount of 60GWh of heat energy per annum will also be produced, an equivalent to the consumption of almost 8,900 households.

Heat energy will be fed into the Grand Troyes (group of municipalities) district heating network and also used by a local industrial company, both located close to the new facility.

The Valaubia project will create 20 jobs during the operation phase, from 2020.
