Valmet to supply a biomass boiler to Greenalia’s new power plant in Teixeiro, Spain
Valmet will supply a biomass boiler to Greenalia’s new Curtis-Teixeiro biomass power plant in Teixeiro, Spain. With Valmet’s boiler technology, the plant will be able to supply power in an efficient and sustainable way.
The order is included in Valmet’s third quarter of 2018 orders received. It was placed by ACCIONA Industrial and Imasa, a Spanish EPC contractor joint venture for the plant. The biomass power plant’s takeover is scheduled for January 2020.
“We chose Valmet to supply the boiler plant based on the company’s proven and efficient technology. Our good cooperation started already in the sales and pre-engineering stage,” says Manuel García, CEO at Greenalia.
“Valmet has wide experience in the biofuels that the new plant will use. We look forward to continuing our good and fruitful cooperation with the power plant owner Greenalia and the EPC contractor ACCIONA-Imasa,” states Kai Janhunen, Vice President, Energy business unit, Valmet.
To produce energy, the plant will use forest biomass, mainly eucalyptus and pine wood. The project will contribute to the maintenance of forests in the area and the prevention of fires, encouraging the collection of small-sized wood waste that is normally discarded for industrial use. The Curtis-Teixeiro plant will increase the generation of energy from renewable sources, thereby contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
