Second unit of Kudankulam nuclear power plant commissioned in India
The second unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Tamil Nadu, a state in India has been launched.
An official ceremony dedication of Kudankulam NPP Unit-2 to Indo-Russian Friendship and Cooperation and laying of Foundation Concrete of Kudankulam NPP Units 3&4 of in India – the first and most important nuclear facility constructed by Russian and Indian parties jointly – were started within the framework of BRICS summit held on October 15th, 2016.
Kudankulam NPP in Tamil Nadu state is being constructed with the technical assistance of ASE Group of Companies.
The ceremony has been held as a video conference between the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi in Goa and the President of ASE Group of Companies, V.I. Limarenko at the Kudankulam NPP construction site.
According to the President of ASE Group of Companies, Valery Limarenko, “Today we are handing over the second power unit of Kudankulam NPP for operation. We have undertaken great obligations and fulfilled them. This is an exclusive result of our joint efforts with Indian partners. Our unified Russian-Indian team did an excellent job. We continue our work guided by unconditional principles of safety and efficiency. I do hope we always stay one step ahead!”
Currently, the Indian party completed necessary preparatory works in order to start the construction of 3,4 power units of Kudankulam NPP within the framework of its own obligations. All necessary infrastructure has been created and the design documentation has been generated for the plant site area. The Facility Customer -Nuclear Power Corporation of India (Ltd) (NPCIL) – obtained a permission for execution of excavation works and proceeded with them.
“We have started a new large-scale project on construction of third and forth power units”- said the President of ASE Group of Companies. “Current start of the second stage of Kudankulam NPP from the first concrete pouring of in the power units 3 and 4 foundation slab is a next important step of our time-proven Russian-Indian partnership. We have tense hard work ahead, but we are sure that only jointly with Indian partners can we achieve success in our joint activities in the interests of our countries”.
On the whole Kudankulam NPP construction project is a perfect example of successful promotion of russian technologies onto the world market”.
Kudankulam NPP is constructed as per Atomenergoproekt JSC design with VVER-1000 MW power units, which fully satisfies the requirements of valid regulatory and technical documents of Russia, IAEA and which is certified for compliance with the requirements of European operating organizations club (EUR).
Kudankulam NPP is constructed in Tamil Nadu state of India within the scope of Russian-Indian agreement dated November 20th, 1988 and its attachments dated June 21st, 1998.
