NextEra asserts termination of Duane Arnold Nuclear Center
NextEra’s CEO mentioned in a conference call that the 647-MW Duane Arnold Energy Center, low’s only nuclear plant could shut down by 2025 before its operating licenses expires in 2034. John Ketchum said the company concluded it’s unlikely Duane Arnold Energy Center’s primary customer will extend its contract beyond 2025. Duane Arnold Energy Center is One nuclear power unit located near Palo, Iowa – approximately nine miles northwest of Cedar Rapids, generating Generates about 615 million watts of electricity – enough power to supply the annual needs of more than 600,000 homes.
Ketchum said the company will continue to seek a contract extension for the facility blaming the revenue losses for the possible decision taken.
