Maryland PSC approved 368 MW Offshore Wind capacity in Atlantic Ocean
Maryland PSC announced that it has approved two offshore wind projects in Atlantic Ocean totalling 368 MW proposed by U.S. Wind and a subsidiary of Deepwater Wind. The move will allow the financing of both projects to move forward.
The project is greater than the nation’s sole wind farm, a five-turbine, 30 MW facility off Rhode Island. The commission also says the projects are expected to create almost 9,700 new direct and indirect jobs and contribute $74 million in state tax revenues over 20 years.
Interior Secretary, Ryan Zinke said that offshore wind is one tool in the all-of-the-above energy toolbox that will help power America with domestic energy, securing energy independence, and bolstering the economy.
Commission chairman W. Kevin Hughes says the decision brings to fruition the General Assembly’s efforts to establish Maryland as a regional hub for the developing offshore wind industry.
