GRS Completes Construction on 35.49MW Solar Plant in Mexico
The photovoltaic plant Energía Limpia de La Laguna has been completed and connected to the electrical grid, after the construction works conducted by GRS began at the end of last year. With a capacity of 35.49 MWp, the yearly energy generated by this plant is expected to amount to the electricity consumption of approximately 25,000 homes, and its clean energy will prevent the yearly carbon dioxide emission to the atmosphere of more than 50.000 tonnes.
GRS and Balam Fund signed an EPC (turnkey) contract last year to construct the Energía Limpia de La Laguna plant in the north of Mexico, near the city of Tlahualilo de Zaragoza (in the eastern edge of the Durango state).
108,314 polycrystalline photovoltaic modules have been used for this project, mounted on 98 multi-row single axis solar trackers. The plant is authorized under a self-sufficiency scheme, and the energy produced will be bought through a long-term power purchase agreement by Farmacias del Ahorro, the most important pharmaceutical group in Mexico.
With 13 years of experience in the solar photovoltaic industry, GRS operates in all sections of the value chain of the renewable energy project (except technological components). It has successfully completed the construction of over 90 photovoltaic plants worldwide, with a total capacity that will surpass 1.5 GW next year. The company’s presence in Mexico has become increasingly strong: it started its activity in the country in 2014, and opened its office in the capital (Mexico City) in 2016.
For its part, Balam Fund is a Mexican private equity fund firm, specialized in the investment of renewable energy, cogeneration, energy efficiency and sustainable projects. Balam Fund has a current portfolio of solar and wind projects in operation or in an advanced stage of construction with a total capacity of more than 500 MW.
Energía Limpia de La Laguna is the second EPC project in which GRS and Balam Fund successfully collaborate in Mexico. The first one was the photovoltaic plant of Camargo, in the state of Chihuahua, that was completed in 2016 with a capacity of 35.46 MWp.
