Exova won a contract to provide testing services to Sellafield
Exova, the global testing, calibration and advisory services provider has won a contract to provide a range of testing services to Sellafield Ltd over two years.
Exova will undertake corrosion and bespoke materials testing from its specialist Corrosion Centre in Dudley, UK. This work supports Sellafield in its 3m3 box project, a key programme to support hazard reduction and clean-up aligning with Nuclear Decommissioning Authority objectives.
The test programme has been tailored to Sellafield’s specific requirements and includes materials performance analysis. The tests focus on a steel box that will be used to seal and store low grade nuclear waste underground for up to 500 years, with the material tested against corrosion in a simulated environment, ensuring safe storage and lifetime integrity.
Helene Jones, general manager at Exova’s Dudley laboratory, said: “Much of the work for Sellafield Ltd is highly specialised and our expert teams are well placed to create a programme of tests tailored to their requirements. As a provider of technically demanding services and with our focus on customer service, Exova is delighted to partner with a business such as Sellafield Ltd. Our technical teams will deliver to the high standards required throughout this important project.”
Sellafield Ltd is the company responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing and nuclear waste management activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
