ANDRITZ to supply electromechanical equipment for the Nam Theun 1 hydropower project in Laos
ANDRITZ HYDRO, part of international technology Group ANDRITZ, has received an order from the Phonesack Group Limited to supply electromechanical equipment for the Nam Theun 1 hydropower project in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
The scope of supply comprises design, manufacturing and the supply of the complete electromechanical equipment, including three vertical Francis turbines with a total output of around 670 megawatts, model test, generators, governors, automation system, main transformer, medium- and low-voltage switchgears, power and control cables, fire protection system, 500kV GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), the main inlet valve, mechanical auxiliaries, installation supervision and commissioning.
Nam Theun 1 is a hydropower storage scheme using the water from the Nam Kading River. It is a major project of the Laos and Thai Power development plan and will strongly contribute to the grid stability in both countries. Electricity will be supplied to Laos and Thailand by dedicated transmission lines. Commercial operation is scheduled to start by the end of 2020.
After having successfully supplied hydropower equipment for Huay Ho, Nam Theun 2, Theun Hinboun and Nam Lik during the last years, the order for Nam Theun 1 once again confirms ANDRITZ HYDRO’s strong market position in Laos.
