AMS to build 16MWH Energy storage project in San Diego
Advanced Microgrid Solutions (AMS) announced that it has been selected to design, build and operate a 16 MWh distributed energy storage project for San Diego Gas& Electric (SDG&E).
The 4MW/16MWh advanced lithium ion energy storage system will be built in San Juan Capistrano for operation beginning in 2019. The batteries will be used to help SDG&E meet reliability needs in a region impacted by the shut-down of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS).
AMS CEO, Susan Kennedy said that AMS is proud to be part of building a cleaner, smarter electric grid. SDG&E was the first major utility to meet California’s goal of delivering 33 percent of energy from renewable sources, and is aggressively fuelling adoption of electric vehicles. Distributed energy storage will help SDG&E balance the grid and protect ratepayers as demand for clean energy technologies continues to increase.
