Origis and Cooperative energy begins Construction of 52MW PV Project in Mississippi

Cooperative Energy  announced that Origis Energy has started the construction work of 52MW PV Project in Mississippi. Origis Energy is responsible to develop, install and operate the electric generation site whereas Cooperative Energy will purchase all the produced power to provide clean energy to 423,000 members across Mississippi.

The 540-acre solar site is located near Sumrall in Lamar County. The site will encompass 206,892 photovoltaic solar panels when completed in December 2017. Solar is considered a clean energy technology as the electricity is produced via sunlight collected by the photovoltaic panels.

Cooperative Energy’s president and CEO, Jim Compton said that their members have told them they want more renewable energy in their portfolio. The project provides a significant amount of solar energy to power the homes and businesses they serve. So they are responding to their members, and also providing clean, affordable energy.

Origis Energy MD of business development, Johan Vanhee said that they are honored to be working with Cooperative Energy as they power more homes and businesses with solar every year. These utility and community leaders understand that solar provides clean, affordable power while creating jobs, economic and environmental benefits.
